10 years of photography experience

  • Currently shoot with a Nikon D750

My first foray into photography came in my 6th grade art class when we had a section on black and white film photography and film development. I then began taking photos during family vacations with my dad's Nikon D70, which led to the tradition of getting a bound photobook for every family trip. My interest in photography did not get serious until I participated in a study abroad experience in Bermuda and my roommate had an amazing little Sony point and shoot camera that could be paired with an underwater case for photography during our SCUBA diving excursions (Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V). I promptly asked for the same camera for Christmas and proceeded to spend several years learning the ins and outs of basic photography and even got to try my hand at some underwater photography. As I explored capturing different subjects with my Sony, I found that I had an interest in wildlife photography and thus needed a camera capable of a more substantial amount of zoom. I settled on a larger Panasonic point and shoot (Panasonic DMC FZ-200) that possessed an impressive 24x zoom, which allowed me to get up close and personal with any subject. This camera also allowed for full manual exposure control, which allowed me to begin to master the use of light. After spending an additional several years honing my craft with this camera, I finally made the leap to a professional DSLR camera in the Nikon D750. This is my current camera and it accompanies me on most of my adventures, from local hikes, to around the world. Check out my photo gallery to see some of my favorite shots that I have taken with all three of these great cameras over the years.
